Ginny Herbert

Consultant

Ginny brings a background spanning nonprofit, commercial, and open access publishing organizations, with experience in organizational transformation, editorial and publishing strategy, operations optimization, content acquisition, researcher engagement programming, and peer review innovation. Her past tenures include the American Economic Association, Taylor & Francis, Frontiers, and the American Institute of Physics Publishing, giving her hands-on exposure to diverse business models, governance structures, and scholarship communities. Most recently, Ginny’s work has focused on building and restructuring teams, redesigning workflows, automating and outsourcing operations, and shaping vendor strategies to support sustainable journal growth.

Outside her consulting work, she is active in the scholarly communication community, currently serving on the board of the Council of Science Editors and as Co-Lead of the Society for Scholarly Publishing New Directions in Scholarly Publishing Seminar, and she was the 2025 recipient of the Society for Scholarly Publishing Emerging Leader Award. Ginny is a Summa Cum Laude graduate of the University of Pittsburgh and completed MBA coursework at Carnegie Mellon University.
