Announcing PNAS Nexus and a New Publishing Services Agreement Between the National Academy of Sciences and Oxford University Press

May 27, 2021

Clarke & Esposito is pleased to have represented the National Academy of Sciences (NAS) in successfully negotiating a publishing services agreement with Oxford University Press (OUP). NAS will work with OUP to develop and publish PNAS Nexus, a new multidisciplinary open access journal. PNAS Nexus will focus on “innovative and multi-, trans-, and interdisciplinary work across the biological, physical, and social sciences, particularly encompassing engineering and health sciences.” The new journal, which will begin accepting submissions in the late summer of 2021, will be headed by Editor-in-Chief Karen Nelson, president of the J. Craig Venter Institute.

The decision to work with OUP followed a competitive request for proposal (RFP) process managed by C&E. This publishing services agreement encompasses only PNAS Nexus; PNAS, the flagship publication of NAS, is not part of this agreement and remains independently published by NAS. We congratulate both parties in beginning this new partnership.
