C&E is seeking a Research Analyst or Senior Research Analyst to help our growing consulting practice shape our market intelligence and thought leadership in scholarly communication and academic and professional publishing.

Working across C&E’s editorial formats (including newsletters, analytical briefs, and long-form reports), this role blends rigorous research, financial and bibliometric analysis, and strong writing skills to illuminate trends in scholarly communication, publishing business models, and market dynamics. You’ll also help build the internal data infrastructure (databases, trackers, dashboards) that underpins C&E’s research and client work.

This role is ideal for someone who enjoys turning complex data into clear insights and compelling narratives and who enjoys collaborating with smart colleagues to turn analysis into impact.

What You’ll Do

  • Research, analyze, and write high-quality content across newsletters, analytical briefs, and long-form reports
  • Track trends in scholarly publishing, research policy, business models, and market dynamics
  • Conduct quantitative and bibliometric analysis to support insights and narratives
  • Analyze financial statements, public disclosures, and market data to assess business models, performance, and competitive dynamics in scholarly publishing
  • Build and maintain the research infrastructure — databases, tools, and workflows — to track trends, market shifts, and developments across the scholarly ecosystem and adjacent industries
  • Collaborate with consultants on research-driven client deliverables
  • Partner with marketing colleagues to extend research into engaging digital and social content

What We’re Looking for

  • 3–7 years in research, analysis, or strategic editorial roles (bonus points) for experience in scholarly/academic publishing
  • Strong analytical and writing skills, with ability to move between data and narrative
  • Experience producing insights and reports (not just raw research) for professional audiences
  • Comfort working with financial data, public company reports, and market signals
  • Ability to interpret bibliometric data and surveys
  • Familiarity with key issues in scholarly communication — open access, AI, research integrity, policy, business models
  • Interest in building frameworks and systems (databases, dashboards, trackers)
  • Bonus points for capability in unifying varied data sources to support analysis and experience with business intelligence tools

Compensation

  • Salary range: $US75,000–125,000 per year, with opportunity for performance bonus. Based on US rates; geographic differentials may apply in some locations to better reflect local market rates. Salary reflects experience and scope of responsibilities.
  • Benefits: Medical insurance, 401k participation, short-term disability, generous paid time off, sick leave.
